Detroit-based company bolsters community support with gifts to Downtown Boxing Gym and Kids Without Cancer
Sachse Construction (Sachse), a premier commercial construction management firm recognized as one of the most trusted and respected construction partners in North America, announced today the fundraising total of its annual Play It Foreward charity golf outing, held Monday, July 10, at Indianwood Golf & Country Club in Lake Orion, Michigan. Despite rainy weather, Sachse and its partners raised a net total of more than $200,000 to benefit the Downtown Boxing Gym and Kids Without Cancer, community partners responsible for impacting young lives. Sachse Construction CEO Todd Sachse made the announcement.

Downtown Boxing Gym Youth Program (DBG) is a free, after-school safe-haven for Detroit children aged 8-18.Through education, athletics, mentoring and intervention, Downtown Boxing Gym empowers Detroit youth to be positive and productive members of society. DBG provides daily transportation and healthy meals, tutoring support, sport and recreation, myriad enrichment programming, and college and career readiness. Founded as Leukemia, Research, Life (LRL) in 1981 and renamed Kids Without Cancer in 2011, this remarkable organization has, for thirty years, been raising money to fund the pediatric cancer research being done at Children’s Hospital of Michigan and its affiliates Wayne State University and the Karmanos Cancer Institute. In fact, this organization is proud to be the largest contributor of funds to pediatric cancer research at Children’s Hospital of all charities solely dedicated to funding cancer research. http://www.kidswithoutcancer.org/
The sold-out event featuring nearly 300 participants, the 18th annual edition of Play It Foreward was highly successful, with the fundraising total for Downtown Boxing Gym and Kids Without Cancer besting the 2016 event total of just over $135,000, as well as all previous Play It Foreward outings. Both of this year’s beneficiaries serve Detroit’s youth population: Downtown Boxing Gym’s Youth Program encourages “books before boxing” and empowers Detroit youth to be positive and productive members of society through education, athletics, mentoring and intervention. Kids Without Cancer strives to eradicate childhood cancer by funding the cutting-edge research being done at Children’s Hospital of Michigan, together with its affiliates Wayne State University and the Karmanos Cancer Institute.
