Haute Off The Runway: Menswear Trend Report F/W 2017

Haute Off The Runway: Menswear Trend Report F/W 2017

By Robere Lett – Publisher

As the runway lights dim on the menswear European shows for the 2017-18 season we bring you highlights from London, Paris, and Milan for the menswear F/W 2017-18 collections.  We were treated to some surprisingly creative and innovative looks.  Stylish elements abounded; everything from the surreal apocalyptic Rick Owens collection to the oversized layers of Dsquared2 and everything in between. The resurgence of the cape for men from design houses such as Dior Homme who’s vision channeled Houdini and sorcerer type magicians or Valentino’s Sherlock Holmes reference, Balmain’s extravagant embellishments and Vivianne Westwood where gender fluidity was on grand display.  The paramilitary influence at Moschino and Balmain. Hallmark design houses such Prada, Zenga, Hermes, Givenchy, Armani, and Louis Vuitton, kept it clean and direct with beautiful wearable pieces. Designers like J.W. Anderson (with amazing crochet and knits), Fendi (stylized textures and accessories), Dsquared2 (layered grunge) and Dolce & Gabanna (animal backpacks), Izzy Miyake provided a wilder ride with a mash-up of color, texture, and bravado. No one creates a look like Rick Owens with a seemly apocalyptic combination of ghoulish and puffy while still managing to create wearable art. Lots of 80’s references with baggy trousers and wide padded shoulders shown through at Neil Barrett. All in all, a very wide berth of fashion to kick off the fashion dynamic but we still have NYFW to come… more soon!
