My Smashbox Make-Over

I must confess, I have never purchased any cosmetics by Smashbox.  I have heard of them, but I have never visited their counter.  I happened to be in the cosmetic department at Nordstrom and ran into a young lady who used to work for me when I was cosmetic department manager at Marshall Fields – Somerset Collection, many moons ago.   She said that she was the counter manager at Smashbox cosmetics and her name is Rouba Hakim.

We had a wonderful time, reminiscing and talking about old times and makeup.  She gave me some great tips about applying makeup, but more importantly she educated me about Smashbox.  I love knowing the story behind a cosmetic or skincare line.

Smashbox cosmetics came from Smashbox Studios, founded in 1990 by Dean and Davis Factor, the great grandsons of Hollywood makeup legend Max Factor.  These world-class photographers came up with the idea of formulating a makeup that minimized touch ups during a shoot so as not to interrupt the flow of a photographer; and in 1996 Smashbox Cosmetics was born, along with a strong motto, “All of our products carry out of the photo studio and into reality”.  Their signature product is the Smashbox Photo Finish Foundation Primer. Rouba used the BB medium dark foundation w/spf on me, the 24-Hour Primer and the Halo Hydrating Perfecting Powder in light medium. What I  like about this makeup is how easily it melts into my skin and blends together to give me a natural, yet finished look. Rouba says “All products are meant to be layered…no caking up. Because of the quality of the makeup, fewer touch-ups are required. These products are also cruelty free, parabin free and gluten free”.

There are specific products exclusive to Nordstrom like the Crush on Blush palette, the Deep Matte Bronze Lights and the fan brush #22, all of which Rouba used on me. The fan brush was also featured in an article, “The 10 Commandments of Highlightening and Contouring”, Allure Digital Magazine.

Please pay Rouba a visit at the Smashbox counter at Nordstrom – Somerset Collection during the anniversary sale going on now through August 2nd.  They have a fabulous brush set that is a “must have”, exclusive to the Nordstrom Anniversary sale.
