Haute Fit: Get Your Life Without Resolutions for 2015
Damon Mackey- Certified Group Fitness Leader and Consultant
At the end of each year, we reflect on the year and how we can make the New Year better. Resolutions are made with the intention of doing just that. The definition of resolution is “the act of resolving or determining upon an action, course of action, method, procedure”, etc. I think it’s difficult to resolve something without understanding how the issue came about, which can make fulfilling your resolution difficult.
Instead of making resolutions, you should make a promise to make a small lifestyle change. Try saving $5.00 from each pay period, instead of resolving to just save money. Eliminate fried foods from your diet, instead of resolving to just eat better. Pay it forward to one person per month instead resolving to be a better you.
We all know that the most popular resolution for the New Year is to lose weight. This resolution is probably the most failed one. There are ways to change your lifestyle which can result in weight-loss. Try my “Better You For the New Year” tips that can help you achieve this goal.
Try getting up 15-minutes earlier each morning to stretch and perform a cardio exercise, which can include walking or jogging in place, jumping jacks, jump rope, or alternating knee lifts.
Upon arriving to work, choose a different parking spot that may be a little further from the entrance, giving you a chance to get a little walking time in.
Make the most of small breaks during your day to walk for about ten minutes. Try this at least 3 to 4 times per day.
If you walk on a treadmill, switch to a higher incline for ten minutes during your 20-minute walk. Also, try different activities that may be new to you, but can get your heart rate up!
Try portion control during each meal. This can be achieved by using smaller plates and an ounce for each food group; which is no bigger than the palm of your hand.
End your day just as you started, with a 15-minute workout routine an hour or so before bed.
I’ve just given you life for 2015! These are small lifestyle changes that are achievable throughout the New Year, and not just a general resolution that’s made to be broken.
Happy Holidays, and as always, contact me with your questions or comments.
Now, get your life!
