Luggage, Layers and Labels: A Men’s Fall/Winter Guide to Style
By Jonathan Glymph, Contributing Fashion Blogger & International Fashion Correspondent
Some men can walk into any department store and head straight to the designated section, locate what they need, and walk right out. Others become lost in the retail world with tons of associates swarming about them offering to assist them finding the right products – so a guide seemed necessary for those men who tend to become overwhelmed by the shopping experience.
Firstly, both fall and winter trends typically remain the same annually, depending on your personal style. Whether you are pairing camouflage printed bottoms with your favorite black sweater and oxfords, or traveling in style with the latest trench coat and luggage-colored duffel, these new fall finds have been trending for a surplus of years. Nonetheless, when you’re headed to your favorite retailer, narrow your search. Each retailer carries something specific and unique so the key is to finding the store that best fits your customer needs. Remember that it’s all about style, so whether you enjoy a European Trim Fit or an American classic/relaxed fit, narrowing your search will help you move swiftly and quickly this holiday season. It is the season for layering, so why not double-up on your fashion sense? You can always start your outerwear look off with a classic camel trench.
American designer Michael Kors believes every woman should own a luggage handbag, and camel colored trench coat. Although I certainly agree, I believe every man should own the same – and for those men who will not sport a messenger bag – a luggage duffel bag for travel is definitely necessary. The luggage-colored accessory gives elegance and class to any look whether you are dressing up for a casual outing in the city or dressing down for dinner and a movie. Luggage says luxury without the glam, but by adding a fur trim scarf or collar you can still glam it up. The camel colored trench is timeless, and will go on to be a staple piece of fall/winter fashion history. A navy trench looks great paired with any sport coat or suit set, but the way camel looks amongst the snow gives it a special effect. Imagine a deer walking gracefully across the snow, you first notice it’s brown color against the white because it stands out. It makes a statement. Similarly, the camel colored trench gives an almost natural naturist effect to an already superb look. By adding layers to your outerwear, whether it’s additional waist belting or luxury scarfing, you can take your sense of style to new heights.
Layering your look with a nice printed or silk scarf has become a modern style requirement. If you’re looking for luxury, Burberry has a nice cashmere scarf perfect for the winter; Versace & Hermes have fine quality silk scarves, while you can find a more casual scarf or versatile scarf at Gucci. You will also find your occasional gems at stores like H&M where I have personally been surprised at how inexpensive and trendy their products are. Layers become vital to any fall or winter look because it adds that heightened sense of style to the created look. If you can take several non-related pieces and come up with a complete look – that’s what style is. Style is both versatile and adaptable. What exciting ideas do you have for layers?
