Haute Fit: Zumbathon 2014 Rocks Royal Oak
by Damon Mackey, Certified Group Fitness Leader and Consultant
Arts, Beats, and Eats is a Michigan tradition and usually indicates the end of the summer season – and the beginning for great food, art creations, music, and Zumbathon! In its 4th season, Zumbathon is now a major staple for the ABE event. Sponsored by Priority Health, this year’s Zumbathon proved to be one of the most energized, ever. The hour and a half master class was lead by over 100 of Michigan’s finest Zumba fitness instructors, pulling in over 1,000 participants who screamed, shouted, and moved to the beat in almost near 90 degree heat. Turning the Michigan Lottery Stage into a rocking fitness dance party, this is also a place where music, dance, and fashion meet. “I loved the Zumbathon workout so much. It was uplifting and I can’t wait until next year”, said participant Yolanda Fuqua, who attended with her husband David.
The $7.00 pre-entrance fee not only provided participants with a sweat-slinging workout and banging choreography, but also benefited the St. John Providence Cancer Center, which makes the event even more worth attending. Vibe Fit, another sponsor of the event, works hard over several months to bring the event to life, and the Zumba family together. “Vibe Fit was so pleased to organize this event involving over 130 Zumba instructors from all over Michigan who came together to share their talent, energy, and passion for Zumba Fitness – and for a great cause is truly inspiring and such a treat for all the Zumba fans who come out to support us”, commented Susan Stokely, co-founder of Vibe Fit and event organizer.
So if you missed out this year, mark your calendar for next year’s Zumbathon which goes into its 5th season to help kick off the Labor Day weekend, and for another worthy cause. Now Dance to Live!
