TV You Must See
Well, summer is almost here. Can we chant a collective HALLELUJAH? As it approaches, it means the end of the regular TV season. Fortunately, in this day of Netflix, Hulu, On-Demand and others, you can easily start from the beginning of a show that you may have missed during its first run. Here is a list of a few shows I’ve seen that I think are worth a watch. If you start now, you’ll be all caught up on past episodes by the time the new season starts. I’m a fan of quirky humor and well-scripted dramas, so please excuse my slanted opinion – but hey, it is my blog after all!
The Mindy Project (FOX). Mindy Kaling previously appeared in The Office. In this comedy, she plays an OB/GYN who is always searching for Mr. Right. The writing is clever, and the supporting cast delivers line after funny line.
The Americans (FX). This is my favorite show, hands-down. The main characters are Russian spies posing as a typical American family during the Cold War of the 80’s. The acting by Keri Russell and Matthew Rhys is superb. The show has just been renewed for a third season, but you should start from season one to follow the characters and the story line.
Boardwalk Empire (HBO). Another favorite of mine. This show’s season ended back in November, but it’s definitely a must-see. Nucky Thompson (Steve Buscemi) is a gangster/politician in Atlantic City during Prohibition. Certainly not for the faint of heart, this violent semi-history lesson follows the rise of Al Capone and gangster Arnold Rothstein, among others.
Let’s Stay Together (BET). This funny show follows two couples dealing with marriage, careers and kids. Starring Nadine Ellis and RonReaco Lee, the series packs a lot of laughs into each episode.
Kitchen Nightmares (FOX). Food guru Gordon Ramsey performs an intervention in mom and pop restaurants. It amazes me how deep in denial some of these restaurant owners are! Although he turns them around in the end, you’ll definitely think twice about where you eat!
