Text Dating asks London A: Is talking on the phone a thing of the past?
Dear London A: Last week I met this great guy at the grocery store. We had a great conversation in aisle seven and then exchanged numbers. Since then, all he has done is text me. I have called him and left messages, but instead of him calling me back, I get a text. We do have a great text conversation; sometimes lasting all day. However, I have yet to talk to him verbally. Should I ask him why or just let it be? Sincerely, Text Dating
Dear Text Dating: I would definitely bring up the subject to him that you would like to have a verbal conversation. Although texting is an easier form of communication and it allows someone who is not the best conversationalist to conceal their insecurities; nothing beats hearing the voice of someone you are crushing on. Now if he gives you some push back about preferring to text, my suggestion is that he is hiding in a world he does not want you to hear. The joy of texting is that it has no background noise. You have no idea what is going on in someone’s life when texting is the only exchange of communication. When you are getting to know or dating someone, you need to experience the background noises of their life; making sure he is not married with enough kids to start a basketball team! Suggest a verbal conversation with him and if he ignores your request, start ignoring his texts. Smooches!
