Things We See and Hear by Marvin Thompson, Jr.
Last week while pressing the pavement through Midtown, I stumbled upon the storefront of what looked to be a pet food store. The colorful chalkboard display outside the door declared, “We’re Open”. On this particular day, theirs was one of the few businesses that could make that claim. As I stepped inside, I realized this wasn’t just your average pet food store.
Cass Corridog (a homage to Cass Corridor, for you long-time Detroiters) is a full service supply center for pets, stocking a variety of products for pet health, nutrition, care and entertainment. Residing in this location for just shy of one year (previously located down the street in the lobby of Canine to Five), the store features many items made here in Michigan as well as all-natural and organic food and treats.
Ironically on the day of my visit our dog, Ace, had received several shots that morning and was a little out of it. Michelle Potas, the owner of Cass Corridog, was very helpful and showed me a selection of doggie baked goods that could have rivaled anything from the Martha Stewart dessert collection. After asking if Ace was allergic to peanut butter. I wasn’t sure, but I figured if I’m not – I guess he’s not? How could I possibly know? I settled on several items and spent more time browsing the colorful array of toys, doggie beds and collars.
Located at 4240 Cass Avenue, west of Woodward between West Canfield and Mack, Cass Corridog is unique in its offering, adding a personal touch that can’t be matched by chain stores. For your pets “special day” they can even create one-of-a-kind gift baskets. For more info call 313.887.9684 or visit www.casscorridog.com. They’re open M-F 10:00a-7:3op and Saturday from 10:00a-6:00p.
As we approach the dog days of summer, do yourself and your pet a favor and check out this wonderful place. Ace loved the gourmet treats, so he gives Cass Corridog 2 paws up! (Okay, my apologies for that one).
