Trench the Season

Nothing beats the rainy season like a stylish trench coat.

With spring showers dampening our days as of late, we reach into our closets to find the perfect trench that from the moment we put it on, our attitude shifts and we feel as though we can conquer any storm that comes our way.

When we don our most beloved trench coat, its no small wonder that we take on the persona of a warrior, considering its origins. The invention of the trench coat is claimed by both Burberry and Aquascutum, with Aquascutum’s claim dating back to the 1850s. Thomas Burberry, the inventor of gabardine fabric, submitted a design for an army officer’s raincoat to the United Kingdom War Office  in 1901. The waterproof, knee-length coat served as a piece  of comfort, mobility and function during wartime.

Although the innumerable styles of trenches have evolved throughout the decades, the overall functionality of the original design maintains the ability to make us feel protected from the elements. Here are a few of our favorites:

Portrait Neckline Trench Coat – Burberry $1,995.00

Long Alligator Leather Trench Coat – Burberry $115,000

Logo-print cuff trench coat – Alexander Wang $1,350

Crop Trench Coat – Top Secret $34

High quality fashion belt trench black or taupe outerwear $45.32
