On High Beam: 27th Erotic Poetry & Music Festival
On High Beam by Olivia Ewing, Entertainment Editor, Haute is Magazine
Passion takes poetry to another level.
Who says a sonnet has to be straight-laced and rhythmically arranged to a fixed scheme? Some people like their poetry downright dirty and Detroit annually features some of the city’s top performers dishing it in ways that would make the most prim and proper of poets blush.
The infamous event known as the Erotic Poetry & Music Festival celebrates its 27th year as one of the oldest community arts festivals in Detroit. The festival is described as an “eclectic celebration of the erotic arts” and will feature everything from burlesque dancers, musicians, provocative poetry, and dirty spoken word to erotic art by some of the city’s finest performers in the genre.
Partial proceeds benefit the Michigan based non-profit organization “Paws with a Cause.org,” who train and provide leader dogs for the disabled.
The event will take place on Saturday, February 22, 2014 at 9 p.m. (21 & over) at The Hastings St. Ballroom, 714 E. Milwaukee. Admission: $10.
