On High Beam: Mark England (1956 – 2014)
On High Beam by Olivia Ewing, Entertainment Editor, Haute is Magazine
The fashion industry of Detroit has lost one of its most brightest and beloved creative talents, designer Mark England. England will always be remembered for his dynamic collection of red carpet gowns, formal wear, men’s and women’s custom tailoring and ready-to-wear apparel for celebrities and upscale professionals.
After being diagnosed with lymphoma in December of 2012, England fought bravely for his life and a better quality-of-life for others. He recently partnered with the Barbara Anne Karmanos Cancer Institute, introducing his latest designs in the Mark England Collection to host Fashion Fights Cancer, a fashion show at the Detroit Opera House. The fashion show raised monies for research and patient support programs at Karmanos Cancer Institute.
The Mark England Collection is the culmination of over twenty years of fashion industry experience and has received national attention for the gown designed for T.V. reality star Omarosa for the Oscar Awards Show. Other notable celebrities who have donned designs by the Mark England Collection include national music artists Sisq`o, The Temptations, Ginuwine, Kelly Price, Angela Bofill, Dwele, Monifa and Andre Royal.
England’s legacy will continue to thrive through those he inspired with his vision and creativity. Rest in peace.
